"Segment Average + 3"
Mystery Revealed!

For the first few seasons, we included at the bottom of each Standings the "Segment Average".  The word "average", by it's meaning, is the number that lies between all of the other numbers.  The "average" would put your team around 8th place.  Our League, however, awards only the top 5 finishers.  Therefore, if you are an "average" YYZ team, you aren't going to win anything!!

So how far above the average should you shoot for?  This number is calculated in the following manner:

1)  For each segment, the 5th place team's total and the average is entered into the 2nd and 3rd columns.

2)  The fourth column, "Cumulative Average", is the total the hypothetical "average" YYZ team would have.  It is calculated by adding all the average totals from previous segments.

3)  The fifth column, "Difference", is the difference between the "average" YYZ team and the real 5th place team.

4)  The final column, "Difference/Segment", is the "Difference" value divided by the number of segments to that point.

So in order to finish 5th or above, you would of had to consistently score 3 points above the average for the season.  Over the last few seasons, "average +3" would of put you in the prizes.
